Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2026 awards.

Ohio ACOFP awards are designed to recognize Ohio DOs who exhibit the exemplary characteristics of an osteopathic family physician. These include compassion, leadership, and a demonstrated commitment to osteopathic philosophy, patient care, community involvement, education, and enrichment of self and others. The nominees cannot be current members of the Ohio ACOFP Board or officers.

Family Physician of the Year Award

The FP of the year must be in active practice; have been in practice 10 years or more; and be a member in good standing of ACOFP, Ohio ACOFP, AOA, OOA, and OOA district academy.

Young Family Physician of the Year Award

The honoree must have been in practice in Ohio for fewer than 5 years. In addition, the recipient must be a member of ACOFP, Ohio ACOFP, OOA, and the OOA district academy.

Family Medicine Resident of the Year Award

Any DO resident training in Ohio is eligible for the award. The nomination must include a letter of endorsement from the program director and a current copy of the resident's CV.

Distinguished Service Award

The award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the osteopathic profession as a family physician. Selected by the Ohio ACOFP Board, the honor is bestowed occasionally as deemed appropriate.  The recipient may be retired from active practice.

Resident Research Awards

Ohio ACOFP sponsors a poster competition each year during the Ohio Osteopathic Symposium. The contest is open to all Family Medicine residents. The winner receives a cash award determined by the OH ACOFP board.

OU-HCOM Student Awards

Student awards are sponsored by Ohio ACOFP and presented annually by the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at the DOC awards ceremony in the spring. The OU-HCOM Family Practice Department selects recipients and will receive a $100 award from the OH ACOFP.

Ohio ACOFP/Katherine H. Clark Fellowship

This fellowship supports Family Medicine fellows, known as Primary Care Associates (PCAs), at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Selection Procedure and Criteria

A scholarship will be awarded to OU-HCOM PCAs who choose to pursue a family medicine residency with Osteopathic Recognition in Ohio.

Each associate who opts to train in a family medicine residency program with Osteopathic Recognition will be awarded $1,000 from this fund to support their residency program training to be used at the recipients' discretion. Should more than one graduating associate opt for a family medicine residency with Osteopathic Recognition, the award would be split equally among the recipients. Should there be no graduates in any single year that select a family medicine residency with Osteopathic Recognition, the proceeds of this endowment will be retained until the following year(s) to support the recommendation as stated above.
